Welcome to The PEACE Tree Garden Project!

under the welcoming willow oak

Our first official week working with volunteers for “The Peace Tree Garden Project.” Clearing spaces, weeding, liberating and transplanting, conceptualising, planning and designing; great opportunities for connection and conversation along the way. Our first week turned into our second and so it continues…
Beautifying spaces and more in predominantly low-income neighbourhoods.

Bringing History to the Foreground

Definitely wouldn’t consider myself to be a grant writer, however, I did write for a grant. After a few unsuccessful attempts at different ones, I managed to get a wonderful grant for our community. Included in what we wanted to do, was signage. We now have over 30 historic markers showcasing local black history around town! This comes under The African American Storyline Project. It is a collaborative initiative between Morning Glory Inspirations and the Transylvania Citizens Improvement Organisation.

We the arrival of covid-19, we had to stop some of our community engagement plans, however, with people being at home more and taking to walking/biking around, they discovered our historic signs to our delight! And… our efforts and steps continue to move ever forward.
